Photographer Challenges ‘American Beauty’ Standards With 14 Women Of All Shapes

The same-named photo series by San Francisco-based photographer Carey Fruth features women of diverse body shapes posing in soft flower petals and aims to redefine what "American beauty" is. The raunchy sequence in which Kevin Spacey dreamed about one of his daughter's friends in the 1999 film of the same name served as the inspiration for Fruth.

According to Fruth, who spoke to HuffPost, "by entering a fantasy dream girl world and letting go of that anxiety, they free themselves up to transfer the energy they earlier used on convincing themselves that they weren't good enough to somewhere in their life."
